Not that the Olympics haven't generally been besmirched already, but this is tacky:

In terms of the look itself, I actually think it looks great!

As for the logo...meh...it's a necessary evil. Granted, a company like Dolce & Gabbana are the official 'outfitters' for a soccer team like Juventus in Italy. There's no D&G logo on the suits per se, but they have the company's logo on billboards behind the players when they have TV interviews.

Everybody does it...otherwise, who would outfit our Olympic team??

The jacket looks very nice, and I like the shirt and tie. However, the placement and size of the Polo logo seems a bit too much to me.

I bet they didn't have far to travel... Ralph probably had them drop shipped from one Chinese province to another.

Umm, it says "AUSTRALIA" in huge letters across her chest. Not that I am strongly disagreeing with you, but... you could have picked a better example.

I think it's pretty tacky, but like others have pointed out, it's no worse than the Roots crap Canada has been putting out for years. I remember a few years back, may have been Calgary, when I first became aware of the existence of a company called Roots due to the opening ceremonies. At first I thought "Roots" was some kind of slogan the team had adopted or something.

I am finding the RL stuff to be a bit overly prominent though. If they had the huge ponies back in the 1980s when TV technology was poor and you couldn't have made out the little logo on your Quasar, I would have understood. However, RL's move to this oversized logo (e.g. the godawful US Open tennis stuff) corresponds illogically to the move to ever-larger and hi-def TV screens, where you can make out every blade of grass.

Still, I don't know that I would call this "besmirching." It's pretty common. It's just a fact of life in the world, ca. 2008.

You might say more that Kobe is besmirching the RL name by wearing it. That is, if you believe the crazy and fantastical allegations that have been raised against him.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
