Hey Guys,

Looking for some advice on a Rain Coat over a Suit or Jacket. This is not for east coast....this is for silicon valley meetings where a jacket is safe, suit sometimes, but definitely no ties. I want a waterproof jacket on top of this...dont' want a real "rain coat"...which makes it look real formal.

What do you guys about wearing these on top of a Suit and taking it off in the customer's lobby?

The hood certainly makes it less "formal" than a conventional rain coat or trench coat. If that is the image you are trying to project, then this will do it. Of course, a jacket that short will not provide much protection. It might not cover even your entire jacket or suit coat, and it will do nothing for your trousers. If you want to stay dry you would be better off with something longer. Camping supply places will have longer tech fabric parkas that will be more practical and still give that casual look. Or just get a trench coat.

Barbour Beaufort, sized up. Actually, given that they're made with room for layers you could do true size. You can even stach a 13 inch laptop in the duck pocket. I did so this morning.

If it doesn't cover at least the length of your jacket and the top of your thighs on your trousers then it's a bit pointless. Why not get a Harry Palmer type lightweight raincoat , sized somewhat snug so it can go over a suit jacket but not be too baggy to layer over just a jumper? Think Paul Weller on the cover of Cafe Bleu or whatever the first Style Council album was.

This is all you need. You can even carry it around on a keychain.Maybe a dollar or two.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
