"Who ever told you that you could work with men?" - Ricky Roma

Every line from Glengarry Glen Ross is quotable.

When John Banville won the Man Booker Prize in 2005 for The Sea, the NYT asked him what he would spend the prize money on. He said he didn't know, and then quickly changed his mind to, "Good works and strong drink." There are hundreds of quotable passages from the 1921 Anglo-Irish Treaty debates in the Dail (one of the only times in history when politicians actually spoke with sincerity)...but Cathal Brugha's is particularly moving. "Why, if instead of being so strong, our last cartridge had been fired, our last shilling had been spent, and our last man were lying on the ground and his enemies howling round him and their bayonets raised, ready to plunge them into his body, that man should say"”true to the traditions handed down"”if they said to him: "Now, will you come into our Empire?""”he should say, and he would say: "No! I will not." That is the spirit that has lasted all through the centuries, and you people in favour of the Treaty know that the British Government and the British Empire will have gone down before that spirit dies out in Ireland."

I like the quote or statement attributed to Marcus Aurelius, that's actually part of one of the SF member's avatar, about always picking the "hard" choice.

    Here's two of my favourites:

Manners are a sensitive awareness of the feelings of others. If you have that awareness, you have good manners, no matter what fork you use.
    "”Emily Post

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, and die gallantly.

    Specialization is for insects.

    "”Robert A. Heinlein

Well heck, that describes ME to a T!
I'm a bit slow with programming computers, but otherwise that's ME!

A couple from Sam Harris - Author of "Letters from a Christian Nation" and noted non-believer: "A person who believes that Elvis is still alive is very unlikely to get promoted to a position of great power and responsibility in our society. Neither will a person who believes that the holocaust was a hoax. But people who believe equally irrational things about God and the bible are now running our country. This is genuinely terrifying." "The president of the United States has claimed, on more than one occasion, to be in dialogue with God. If he said that he was talking to God through his hairdryer, this would precipitate a national emergency. I fail to see how the addition of a hairdryer makes the claim more ridiculous or offensive." "Tell a devout Christian his wife is cheating on him, or that frozen yoghurt can make a man invisible, and he is likely to require as much evidence as anybody else, and to be persuaded only to the extent that you give it. Tell him that the book he keeps by his bed was written by an invisible deity who will punish him with fire for eternity if he fails to accept its every incredible claim, and he seems to require no evidence whatsoever." A few more random choices: "The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function." F. Scott Fitzgerald \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin

It's really funny because I look at your avatar and think of you as a beaver, designing a building (dams), balancing accounts and writing sonnets. I can also see how slow programming can go when typing isn't exactly easy.

A good quote I heard on speciallization was,
"Be a jack of all trades, and master of one."

Inspired by this thread and a discussion w/ Dedalus I've made another favorite quote my signature.

I have always been partial to Dali quotes.....

    "I don't do drugs. I am drugs. "

"The only difference between me and a madman is that I'm not mad. "

"Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it. "

    Among many others.

On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit.

And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, 'Okay, this is the limit'.

And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.

With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

"Consistency is not really a human trait"

    couple of Football (sah-ker) quotes:

"All that I know most surely about morality and obligations, I owe to football"
-Albert Camus, writer and goalkeeper for Angola

"Five days shalt thou labour, as the Bible says. The seventh day is the Lord thy God's. The sixth day is for football."
    -Anthony Burgess

And here's something I read in GQ a couple months back...funny:

"My problem is that I have a tailor - a good one - but I don't have a doctor. Which probably says something about my priorities, and that maybe - just maybe - I'm a little bit preoccupied with superficial matters."
