I have been reading on the pros and cons of lined vs unlined pennys. I think I am falling in the lined camp as I always wear socks.

I would appreciate any advise you guys can offer on the follow:

-Will the unlined Rancourts lose their shape over time? (I will be wearing these to work quite a bit and I don’t want them to look like a catchers mitt)
-I cannot try any of these shoes on. I wear a 12 D in AE bluchers. How risky is it to buy the quoddy’s given the 3 week wait time for shipping?

I realize this thread is old, but oh well.

you can try the quoddy's in your size from mr porter, with free returns. Also, brooks brothers stocks some rancourts. BB has easy returns if there is a store nearby. Finally, you might consider Oak Street Bootmakers. You can order them from lands end canvas and return to any sears store if they don't fit.

I have had the oak streets for about 8 monts. Although unlined, they hold their shape really well. I don't normally use shoe trees with them. I just got some quoddy mocs, so I can't comment on the longevity. The quoddy's fit me better, but the oak st's seem more robust. I don't like the oak street insole for sockless wear, but mine are pretty narrow for my foot, so that might make breathing more difficult.

Can't comment on the loafer but I have boat mocs from Quoddy (lined) and from Rancourt (unlined). I wear both without socks. The Quoddy definitely keeps its shape better though it is beefier than the Rancourt so that's not surprising. The Rancourt stretched a bit when I bought it but keeps it's shape reasonably well compared to Sperrys. While I think the quality on the Quoddy is very good, I prefer the Rancourt as it is a bit sleeker.
