I rented Hero the other night, thought it was a pretty good movie, nothing great, though I've heard the US version is pretty badly edited, and has very poor picture quality.

I wasn't too interested in the movie, but I though if Tarrentino had anything to do with it, it would be worthwhile. I did enjoy the movie but what exactly did QT have to do with it aside from stamping his name on it in America?

He put up money to get the rights to show it in the United States. I think Miramax just hyped it as "QT presents.." so it would draw more people to the theatres to see it. It was available in bootleg form since it came out in China, but this is a more "official" release.

Chungking Express is a great film. I recommend it highly, although you may never want to hear "California Dreaming" by The Mamas & The Papas ever again {If you wanted to in the first place

If you can get a Chinese language copy (it has English subtitles) it's a lot better than the US copy. For whatever reason the US copy looks like someone pointed a camera at the Chinese copy playing on screen.

I saw Hero in the theatre a few months back, when the main release was, and the picture looked really good. Maybe you saw one of the old bootlegs? I do hear that the version that was released a few months ago was cut by 3 minutes from the Chinese theatrical release. Appartently there is an extended Chinese version that is 100+ minutes rather than the 96 of the standard Chinese release and the 93 minute US release.

I don't remember too much of the film "Chunking Express" except that I was confused by the plot or lack of one. Then I I got angry because I thought that it had been a trick that my roomates had pulled.

I didn't go watch the movie with them when they went to see it in the movie theatres. Afterwards, when they got back, they raved about it by saying that it was the best movie they've ever seen. Years later, I finally decided to go watch it but I couldn't find the movie anywhere. It actually took a lot of effort to find the movie, and I was dissappointed with the movie. I've always suspected that my roomates hadn't enjoyed the movie either, but figured that it would be funny to tell me the movie was great because it would be a hard film to locate.
