I actually think the steal of that Hammargruppen sale is the Savile at 3760 SEK. About $430 USD for handgrade.

Mailorder price less VAT is about $685 converted from GBP.

Any opinions on CJ boot soles?

I'm thinking about having my Conistons resoled at the factory. They currently have the dainite on them and I'd like to get something else. I can't stand the way I can feel the pressure of the dainite nubs before they wear down.

I'm thinking maybe ridgeway?

These vibram cleated soles look pretty cool too: https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens/main-collection/coniston-the-black-editions/

There's also a boot on itshide commando soles here: https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens/boots/snowdon-oak-wax-hide/

Then there's the city sole, which looks great, but a bit thin for a boot. I haven't seen it paired with a leather midsole, which would be ideal.

The Vibram cleated are definitely cool - but clearly not suited for some Coniston styles or some folks. I think it could look great on most suede / rough-out styles. Can't wait for cooler weather to start wearing these!

I thought they were not CJ? though I'm mostly picking up more "casual/country/boot" make up from CJ these days, I think there are people do finer on dress shoes.

Dear all, I am looking for recommendations for some good hiking boots - general recommendation seems to be to stick to specialist hiking brands like Lowa or Meindl.

However, I wouldn't be on styleforum if I didnt care about style! Can traditional country boots work for full on proper hiking/backpacking?

I am considering some options incl. the C&J consitons or the Snowdon - anyone have any experience actually going on outdoor hiking expeditions (over rocky trails, muddy bogs etc) with these and can they be recommended to keep me safe and dry? Or better stick to specialist brands for that?

Yes, you are right. They are Cheaney, I was mistaken.

I've done 10-12 miles a day in a Coniston and its been ok, but not in bogs or rocky trails. Old urban areas w/ uneven streets or hilly temples (Japan). Not sure I'd want to go bog hopping in them.

Have also worn them out shooting, but I shoot clays on dry ground not fowl in the marsh.

You likely won’t need all of the alterations these guy’s needed, unless you failed to mention climbing a mountain. But Snowdon is pretty much made for this kind of thing which you speak of.

I wore my beloved CJ Galway 2 yesterday, and it's suede brother arrived unexpectedly from the UK today. These are the brown Stead sourced suede Galway 2, a special makeup for Richard James boutique on Savile Row, London.

The fit is incredible, I already love the 325 last, but in suede, these things hug my feet like nothing else. I can definitely see this getting a lot of miles through airports and business casual meetings in the future, and being a very dark and rich suede, should match well with a whole host of clothing

I wear my bar hopping and pub crawling and use them when shooting there too; the bull in my case. Very rugged for this purpose; get maybe 100 yards of walking, or crawling, on a good night
