Am I the only one requiring zero break in with CJ? Most of their lasts fit me like gloves, the second time I wore the Pembroke I did an 18k steps walk without any discomfort.

Same for me. That’s why I mostly stopped buying shoes from different makers, even if they offer better made shoes on nicer lasts. For example I still did not manage to break in my Meccariellos, more than 2 years after buying them... They are beautiful but ultimately I want to walk comfortably in my shoes, not admire them lying on a shelf.

Those tan wholecuts creased badly. Is that normal?

That seem to be poor fitting rather than problems with the making of the shoes? I’m guessing the lasts is too long for the wearer?

It's the same creasing I have with all shoes, no matter the last.

In fact I do have a 7/7.5 UK lengthwise and these are 6.5 UK but I have a very narrow ankle and a very low instep. I've tried 6UK in C&J I cannot even walk due to the pain.

Whole cuts always look like they crease more. There’s nothing else to really draw the eye away from them.

Rolls look as bad on shell?

I only have a few shell cordovan and none are a plain toe or whole cut.

creases in general are fine and to be expected. Certainly the characteristics of the creases differ from calfskin.

I guess my point was that it can almost be an optical illusion; with whole cuts, there is nowhere to hide.

Based on the pics provided, the creasing doesn’t look that bad.

So I received the Pebble Grain Boots from BB. Quality and built is definitely different than the C&J boots on hand. Definitely lighter than the suede boots pictured below, as in half the weight. Leather quality is OK.. Overall heaps above AE, not even close considering I paid less than $200 for these.

AS build quality is close to C&J and well above AE quality wise. Leather seems to vary - my Cambridge boots are as good as my Consitons in terms of leather and build. Cambridge looks better too, but Conistons are a better fit for my feet. Leather on My AS x J Crew boots is not as good as C&J leather (which is consistently high quality).
