Should I assume that if C&J doesn't identify a suede as being reverse calf (full grain) then it is likely a split suede?

I'm particularly interested in their Chiltern.

I already have three other C&J's in suede, and am happy with them all, but still curious whether I'm walking around in full or split.

Only the handgrade collection uses reverse calf:

So the Chiltern must be using split suede

CJ makes fantastic footwear. These were the last of their kind from any of the stores around St James; got these at the Burlington Arcade shop.

Have only worn them sparingly since buying over a year ago. Love 'em!

Bi-annual touch-up. These boots are 2.5 years old.

Dull, dry shell:

Fuzzy exposed shell fibers. The finishing is gone. Rough to the touch:

Water spots galore:

Edges need some work:

Applied two coats of edge dressing and a dollop of renovateur per boot. After some time and several rounds of brushing and buffing, the shine is back:

Can someone explain that "fuzzy exposed shell fiber" that adrs posted a pic of above. Why does that happen to shell? Is that normal, bad, good, easily managed?

Nice write up and great results.

Did you sand the edges before dressing? I'm waiting to get some fine grit paper before doing this job on my Snowdon's.

Renovatuer seems to have done a good job on the shell. Are the spots visible at all now?

Hi Gents, does anyone know which retailer may still have C&J Galway 2 boots? (Uk7) because It’s completely sold out in C&J retail.
