    I think he means that there is too much space in between your ankle and the shoe opening. Your foot should comfortable without too much sPace, if any in between the back of your ankle and the back of the shoe opening.

    sure, he said, the laces are loose, so if you thighten the laces the parts will overlap. got it now?

    I'm not sure he said that at least from what I understand, but I'm not sure if he is referring to the space inbetween the laces or the space between his ankle and the shoe now.

    I assume you are referring to the space ahead of the laces where the shoe is the widest, i.e., the ball of the foot.

    I can see how the flaps where the laces go on the derby could overlap in the second picture you provided though since they do not sit flat on the vamp.

    Me = happy :)

    The confounding factor about my various shoe fits is that I have flat feet and low insteps. Most (if not all) non-ortho lasts are not shaped that way so my shoes tend to stretch in various ways. I guess I could always start wearing clogs or crocs!

    that was my assumption. i know from some folks how difficult it is to find a good fit.

    Westfields - I really like this pair a lot, I love the shape of the 341 last and it fits so well and comfortable. it's a shame they don't have it in the handgrades.

    I want to get two pairs of loafers and was thinking of C&J Merton in Beechnut and Santoni Quinlan in Dark Brown rubber sole. I haven't seen the Merton in person and wanted to know if the color is closer to a tan? This way both pairs wouldn't look too similar.

    Santoni Quinlan - Dark Brown:

    C&J Merton - Beechnut: In the official picture they look quite dark.

    Though these old shoes look more tan to me:

    The official picture is much closer to the actual color. Beechnut is not at all tan. More of a medium brown which is a little on the olive side (not much red). Here's a recent pic of mine on their maiden voyage.

    They look even better there! [IMG] Bon voyage

    Where did you end up finding them in stock and how much?

    Looks like I'll have to find something else in place of the Santoni for the tan shoe.

    I bought them direct from the C&J store on Jermyn Street. I don't remember the exact retail price - about 310 pounds before VAT reduction?
