What do you wear them with?

I always find plain derby shoes a bit difficult to team with. Somehow they are not the first choice when I have to wear a suit, yet they feel too formal for a casual outfit .. So never bought one like those ..

How long do you have those Islays? Are they holding well? Heard couple of stories with speed hooks falling off ..

Am thinking of ordering either them or Coniston from Purdey ..

I've had them for about a year. I don't wear them all that often as the weather here isn't usually suitable. I haven't had any issues with them though. None of the speed hooks even feel loose. I just checked based on your question.

Can someone please explain to me what the numbers on the C&J Dainite Heels mean (3 3/8 etc) and what is the correct number for the Islay boot?

I think those are the size of the heel in inches. The correct one would depend on the size of your boot

Are these the numbers you are referring to?

Yep, that's the one. Just noticed it was different on my Brecon boot and Norwich shoe even though they are both 7.5E. Was wondering what it was for an Islay size 7.

I know this is probably not the best place to ask but I am sure the Gents here would know.

I have a pair of Peal & Co for BB boots, Cordovan Burgundy color I like to wear them as my kick arrounds and would like to achieve a Matte finish on them if possible as they have a natural shine that lasts for ever ( seemingly ) is there an easy way to achieve a Matte finish?

Kind of the opposite of what most folks ask about. My first thought was use something like HDLP but I would let the shoe care fiends comment.

Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Preservative. I think the other poster meant for you to wear the boots often. I have C&J shell boots and all the conditioners I've used have kept the shell pretty shiny. Not like Alden's of course, but definitely not matte.

You could try a little of the HDLP (it's not very expensive) on the inside heel or something to see how it does.

so I think my shell crockett and jones shoes are too small - any advice on how to stretch them, or should I just sell/trade/give them away?

I have the lwb which fit a little snug and then bradfords which are just too small
