    1) what are the main differences between the handgrade and the benchgrade?

    2) what is the best CJ last? I heard is was the 337.

    3) what do you think of the 348 last? I have a pair and i find it a tiny tiny bit too pointy.

    4) how does CJ benchgrade and handgrade compare to G&G ready to wear?

Funny enough was in the Crockett store yesterday and was told the sales begin end of next month but no mention of seconds. I presume its general sale and end of line if any.

Let's hope so - AFAIK it has only been end of line and seconds previously

They're mostly seconds, they just don't want you to know that.

As well as seconds, there are usually a good number of samples, ie different combinations of styles, lasts, leathers. These are all UK 7's, which is fortunate if you are dainty, but not much good for normal sized people.

Handgrades have closed sole stitching, oak bark tanned soles, higher quality of construction, leather finishing etc. etc. Benchgrade has channeled sole stitching, non specified leather soles, good but not super premium leather.

As to lasts that is purely personal preference. I happen to like the 348 quite a bit.

CJ handgrade is pretty close to G&G RTW in terms of basic construction quality as far as I can tell. Although no where near them in terms of details, styling and shape IMO. And I much prefer the leather that G&G uses, it is thicker, and more deeply dyed.

Of course the benchgrade is a step down from both - not really the same thing at all. A very good quality shoe for the money - but not a handgrade and not comparible to anything that G&G offers.

In reading the threads on here I always thought that channelled soled meant closed-soled stitching, but upon further reading it looks like they could be open or closed. How come more people don't make the distinction specifically in regards to C&J shoes?

are the pices going to be the same as Northampton prices cos i can tell clearly if they seconds as they are supposed to stamp the soles as SUBS as per Crockett and Jones policy.

Not sure that happens consistently - I bought two pairs of Tetbury from the factory that were not stamped
