Sounds like they are saying US D = UK E and US E = UK E, so their UK E is probably somewhere in the middle between most US Ds and Es. Actually, as strange as that sounds it's probably about right. I usually wear a US10E in Allen Edmonds lace ups, and 10D in loafers, but a C&J UK E fits me great. Not sure about the 1/2 size conversion though, at least that's not my experience. I guess they are saying "size decreases by up to 1 whole size" so again maybe it's sort of in the middle. All my US sized C&Js (Barneys, BB, RL) are 10D and my UK sized are 9E. My first UK sized pair I got fitted at the NYC C&J store and I certainly couldn't wear a US9.5 in any of my US sized shoes.

If anyone is interested in getting on the Modified Brown Cordovan Harlech MTO I'm trying to set up just get in touch. I'm going to head to C&J NY tomorrow to try on the 341 last. At the moment we have 3 interested parties and need to get to 6 to place the order.

Feel free to PM me with any questions or have a look at the MTO thread I have setup HERE.

Thanks C&J, but I think you accidentally skipped my question.

Are the Shipton & Hineage shoes made to Handgrade standards, or below?

I agree that it seems like their US E is probably between a D and an E, and they recommend only sizing down half to account for extra width making it more like a standard US E, albeit in a slightly longer shoe.
This is fine for people with slightly wide feet, but for those of us with excessively wide feet that are already only sizing down by half for the extra width, makes it near impossible to fit since the shoes end up being way too long.

I have a pair of C & J Audleys in Dark Brown Antique. Any idea what the best colour match for polish is? Over the years I must have been using an off colour brown and they now seem far removed from their original state. I'm thinking of sending them in for an overhaul.

Love your boots sir. I've been a Harlech admirer for awhile now. How do you like them? Are they very comfortable? Congratulations and wear them in good health.

Awesome. You seem have a very nice color on those - reminiscent of Alden's cigar. I would be interested to see a photo or two of these outdoors (in sunlight) if you have the chance.

Hmm, still no tracking from Shipton. Here's the email I got from them on Friday

    "Thank you for your order.
Just a little email to confirm I will be ordering you a UK 9 as stated in your order.
Your order should be collected from us by FedEx on Monday morning so you will receive them Wednesday, maybe Thursday at the very latest.
Once they have been booked into FedEx you will receive an email which will include tracking details.
    Have a lovely weekend."

Thank you sir. They're amazing. I had to get used to the slighty elongated last but since then they've become one of my most comfortable shoes.

It's funny because I tried on two sizes, UK 9E and UK 9.5E. The 9E was a lighter brown and the better fitting pair. I'll make sure to post some outdoor photos.

    Hello quick question...

I got my Finsbury shoes from C&J by mail order today. One of the shoes has a break crease across the leather. Does this mean that it's been worn by someone previously, either a return or tried on? Should I be bothered? :-(

Also I was rather disappointed with the sole/heel change done by C&J's repairer. There are dent marks (tool marks?) on the side of the heel of one shoe - see picture. Having paid £420 for them, i think it's not unreasonable to expect pristine factory-standard finishing for a pair of new shoes. I feel like I'm getting a pair of flawed factory seconds. What do other people think - is it acceptable? :-(

Not unreasonable, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over that.

Pics? I'd just use dark brown polish.
