Well that certainly sucks since I placed an order for black Tetbury's a week ago (and they've likely arrived at my place in NYC already).

And responding to the calf vs. nubuck question the black Tetbury's are nubuck, but they certainly look more like regular calf, I imagine because of the way C&J finishes them. I'll defer to those more knowledgeable to say why.

I have a pair of Harvard loafers that I love, the cordovan has an amazing color particularly under the sunlight. However, there is one tiny thing that probably no one else will ever notice but just being aware of it drives me nuts. The stitching around the toe on the right shoe seems to be slightly misaligned.

If you see the shoe from above as it will be seen 99.9% of the time, you can't really tell something's off:

However, from this view you can see the odd S shape followed by the stitching on the right shoe as opposed to the left shoe, where the stitching curves following the shape of the last:

I purchased the shoes from Pediwear, originally received a pair that had a similar issue but in a much more pronounced manner, and was able to return them for this pair. I have ordered two pairs of C&J oxfords from the same seller and have found no issue with them, so I highly doubt they were trying to get rid of seconds. Again, I'm being considerably picky here, but is this something to be forgiven given the artisanal nature of the product, or is it sloppy quality control?

It could be the stitching (which is purely decorative and does not join two pieces of leather) but it is more likely to be the lasting which is a bit off. Short of taking the right shoe apart and re-lasting it, there isn't any quick fix. Once the shoes need new soles and go back to the factory, you can ask the C&J people to pay particular attention to the problem.

Only passing frogs will notice the problem!

What do you guys think about this shoe? I'm on the fence whether to buy or not. They are CJ made for Polo Ralph Lauren, bench made in England. Is quality good on these guys? Will they serve any purpose aside from looking sort of like golf or bowling shoes?

I have no experience with this particular makeup, but they look quite nice. RL usually sells pretty good quality merchandise. If they are C&J that should speak to their durability.

It has been discussed in the past but the calf leather used is treated (not exactly "corrected") and the name given was nubuck, and not the type of leather used to make the shoe. I still want to pick up a pair... Today: Well worn and perfect for the elements [IMG]

C & Js are usually extremely durable and sturdy. Have worn mine for at least a decade.

Hi, I'm having trouble deciding which size to buy in the Boston suede loafers (314 last). I'm somewhere between sizes UK7.5 and UK8, with medium width feet, narrow heels and highish insteps. 325 in UK8 is about a perfect fit for me in the ball area, a touch loose in the heel. I've read that the 314 is very narrow and short, but I'm worried that there might be heel slippage in a size 8. Alas, zero chances to try them on here in Finland.

I've owned the Lulworth, not the same but very similar, extremely nice and refined saddle shoes, C&J made some nice saddle shoes.
325 is longer compared to 314 and other lasts, the Boston in UK 8 should fit.

Any update on sample & discontinued models that might appear for the upcoming C&J sale?

    Excellent, thank you.

I have only had initial emails with a C&J sales associate, so i'm not sure how if i will indeed be on his notification list. Any info is appreciated... :fistbump:
