Thanks, man. That's really helpful.

Do you have any thoughts on the Harlech in dark brown?

Hello Kant,

the Harlech in dark brown is advertized by C&J as elegant derby boot, that can also be worn with a suit.

In my opinion besides the "Harlech" in dark brown also the

- "Perth", as a type of "Galway" derby boot, in dark brown antqiue calf and the
- "Stroud", as 7 eylet derby boot in the current GMTO offering, in dark brown antique calf

can be worn as elegant derby boots with a suit. These are the three derby boots that I am aware of from C&J, while I prefer calf leather over cordovan leather personally.

Best regards

Pascal

For my taste, the Harlech is way too casual to wear it with a suit.

Is it not dangerous to step on shotgun ammunition with a boot? I mean, the explosion could not ruin the backseat of the nice jeap, but also the limited edition boots. ;-).

Futhermore, it is not allowed by hunting law, in the UK and Germany, to let ammunition lie around loosely in open spaces. The marketing agency should have known this, making the photos nonsense.

Best regards and enjoy your sunday

I'm a huge C&J fan with 8 pairs - but NOT loving these....the picture of the boots in the backseat with shotgun shells? What am I missing?

Back to work Monday, does not get more classic than Brown Boston's in country grain....is it my imagination, but country grain loafers have much less vamp crease versus the vamp in boxcalf loafers?

Yes, scotch grain leather creases less. I experience the same on my Heinrich-Dinkelacker "Zurich" black full-brogue oxfords, which are very similar to the scotch grain Pembroke from C&J. The leather rather folds across the vamp instead of creasing.

However, I see that most of you are wearing rather casual derbies, boots and loafers. I am on the opposite with oxfords, dressy derbies and elegant boots (chealseas and balmoral boots) also for my smart casual outfits. Do you wear formal shoes for work?

The "Harlech" is advertised as more formal boot. I guess the most formal boots to be worn with a suit and plain black or dark brown chukkas and chelseas in smooth calf leather, a dressy derby boot like the "Stroud" and of course balomoral boots. C&J has almost no formal boots on offer I think besides the fashion-forward buckle boot "Camberley".

Best regards

Due to its structure grain leather is less prone to crease (or creasing is less noticeable).

Yes, for a formal suit in worsted wool, they suit one in tweed or flannel or corduroy though.
And I guess one wears dressy boots in rainy autumn and snowy winter weather, when such thick fabrics are appropriate for business suits. Hence that would work well

Regarding the shotgun shells on the bakc bench: Instead of using a hammer to ignite them, has on tried it with a suede brush, also used to clean the chelseas boots for the (ridiculous) photo? ;-)

Best regards

Pascal
