thanks for your initiative with this GMTO, wonderful looking boot. I would jump on it if I liked leather soles and would not be waiting for my Pre-Order Lindrick. So I wish you and those who join this GMTO good luck
Hello Daimler1989,

The handgrade leather soles are very robust and long-living. I like them even in rain and winter. Otherwise, the "French Approach" of a rubber topy with boulevard plates / toe irons, is very useful to keep the sole thin and elegant, but with more traction on wet and slick surfaces. In Paris all leather-soled shoes were offered with the option to do this.

Best regards

Pascal

I think that it's a useful option, although many manufacturers advise against it (they say it alter the shoe balance) and wouldn't take the shoes back for refurbishment, at least officially.

By the way, are those Topy rubber sole just glued onto the leather sole, or is this filed for better hold?

Hello DorianGreen,

as far as I know the rubber topies are glued to the sole. In Paris this was usual practice and even recommended by Corthay, Septieme Largeur and Atlan Bottier. They offered the service to let the rubber topies and brass toe plates be installed by their cobbler.

To avoid altering the balance of the shoe, also a rubber topy at the heal can be installed and was offered as well as service.

Best regards

I love the boot but cannot wear single soled footwear nowadays due to foot problems so the GMTO is not for me, plus I’m overflowing with shoes and boots!
Can you ever have enough shoes and boots? ;-)

A collector here in Frankfurt had a whole large room, or rather wing, being added to his already large house in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen to put his collection of ~1200 shoes in his private exhibition. He regularly whore 60 and had even exotic shoes from Asian shoemakers and other very rare gems.

There's empirical research out there to suggest that those married with wives are highly unlikely to have large shoe collections. And you seem to further prove that this hypothesis is true.

Take her shopping for shoes then purchase your next pair after her purchase...take a non-chalant detour to the "arbitrary" men's fine shoe store.
It's all in the pre-planning, reconnaissance and proper execution.

thanks for the suggestion. I managed to lure my wife into the C&J world some time ago. unfortunately, they don't have as many different models for women as for men. recently, I also tried Cheaney on her with success. when we were in Paris in October, I failed with a bribe attempt for her at Upper Shoes (they offer a nice exclusive women's suede Chukka boot by C&J) because they only had men's models in the shop.
