Does the 365 last (Crockett & jones islay boot) fit large? I’m wondering if I should size down 0.5 from my regular uk size. For reference, Swansea pembroke and cavendish I take 9 UK. Bostons are the only ones I’ve felt the need to go up 0.5 due to the shorter toe area
Hello, I use Islay, Molton, Pembroke and Conistin in 10.5UK.

I hope this helps

365 have a roomy toe and heel which allows for thicker socks, so it is perfect for intended use - such as Islay boots are colder season boots.

In my view yes. I have my normal size which fits well, but I know and tested in the store half a size smaller and it would have been an even better fit. But, of course, as you know there are hundred individual differences in feet, so it might not work for you, but I recommend trying 0.5 smaller for 365.

Guys, if you use an additional insole on your boots, do you take them out before inserting a shoe tree?
It depends,

In the past my orthodontic insoles were so thick I had to take them out. The New glued-in insoles to reduce the shoes' volume have to stay in, such that the shoe trees can firmly correct the creaes and folds in the leather of the forefoot.

Best regards

Absolutely, the last works really well for me and the hand grade sole and finishing is great.
Thanks Lumow,

it would be something different than the elongated lasts 348, 360 and 373 that I am usually wearing.

Enjoy your sunday and best regards

I usually wear insoles made of felt in all my shoes, which provide additional cushioning and regulate the climate in the shoe. I never leave them in when I take my shoes off and immediately put the shoe trees in.

I size down too, usually a UK9 but take an 8.5 in my Islay, although my OG Islay are 9 and still work absolutely fine. The half size down is perfection for me.

My Zug Snowdon SF GMTO out working in the snow of Northern Iceland yesterday.

In terms of smart semi-formal footwear, these probably could not have be bettered but they weren’t perfect for a full day in the snow. The Veldtschoen welt does allow for moisture to transfer into the footbed of the boot, I’m imagining via some osmosis through the leather. My feet weren’t wet, more cold/damp.

I’m going to have to work on better proofing the welt area.

If you want any more pictures or details Im happy to help.
Great, I would appreciate it!

The Barrington 2 in tan is still available at the men's high-end fashion bouique "Diehl & Diehl" here in Frankfurt.

By the way, they also told me that the important taxes and duties now with the UK no longer being part of the EU hurts them as high-end retailer as well. The stock CJ handgrade, Edward Green and John Loob shoes from the UK.

Enjoy your sunday and best regards

Looks like a fantastic choice for the job! In the evening you can walk to the hotel bar in the same shoes I suppose.

Regarding the moisture I started to think there might be another cause for it which I have learned from my hiking hobby. Feet perspire a lot - really a lot - so the moisture might end up coming from inside the boot. You need to have good, thick socks, such as merino wool, which can absorb all that moisture, because no footwear breathes as much as feet perspire.

Well, just thinking maybe this might be the cause and not the welt.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
