Too bad, I really like rough-out. The reversed suede shoes I have from Tricker's are probably my most worn. Those do look and feel slightly different than roughout due to their nappy appearance (it's a bit in between a nice suede and rugged roughout).

The RO is great. Brilliant material. Just the boot design and the last that i'm not so much in love with. Its slightly too high. Too many speedhooks. And somewhat restricted around the instep and dorsum areas. And it has bit of an odd feeling where my feet wont fully touch/sit onto the 'medial arch' , 'base of 5th' and 'ST Contour' areas of the foot bed. For ref.

@Humpty_Dumpty_Rises well if they're a UK10 I might want to give them a try. I'm not much of a boot guy (down to two pairs at the moment and rarely wear them, even in winter time). I often find them too nice to beat up, or too much for sitting in an office all day or a quick visit to the shop.

It’s a classic YMMV situation. My R/O Islay fit perfectly on my feet, as do all my small fleet of Islay… but I’m just not into the Rough Out Suede, I think they just aren’t quite my style. I had my OG DBSG Islay on all day, and I loved everything about wearing them.

I want to love the R/O… I really do!

C&J Coniston in chestnut Russian Grain (325 last) from Gentlemen's Footwear. I had been contemplating this model forever, and finally purchased a pair. Very happy with the leather, color and Ridgeway soles; a great make-up.

Several of you provided sizing guidance and personal experience with this model and/or leather - thank you (and to @steveyoo1983)!

Are these from our GMTO? I wore mine at the weekend for the first time in more than 6 months. I’m really struggling to learn to love mine. My first and only pair of Rough Out Suede. They fit perfectly, but I haven’t fallen for them…
Yes they are. I think they are great, then again I’ve never seen an Islay I didn’t like, but horses for courses. I wear mine with jeans and corduroy, perfect combos imo.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
