Not a fan either. It's not horrible or anything, but I just prefer calf if they would be priced equal. The fact that cordovan costs almost double makes that I own none (tried a couple times).

It has nice properties, but also a few bad ones. For starters I don't really like how it scratches and rolls over times. Don't always like how calf creases either, but you have good and bad creases. I do like the sturdiness of the material and deep colours.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for the more formal C&J offerings. 90% of the posts seem to be about rugged boots.

Not a complaint - just surprised.

Look at my shoe list with my signature, nary a boot!!!! I'm a loafer and wingtip guy...for the most part, boots have taken over the conversation in the Alden thread as well.

Pretty attracted by this Crawford from the Hand Grade collection, but always wary in case of loafers. The last is described as being narrower waisted and with a slimmer heel, which sounds good. Anybody with some experience?

I have a pair of hand grade Boston's - pretty new. As much as I love the feel of the leather, I was shocked how much rolling and creasing I have in the vamp. I get much less in my country grain Boston's - here is a picture new, and then after wearing them 10 times or so....

For me it’s definitely not as simple as liking or disliking these things. I like speed hooks, but not too many, I agree shell has it’s downsides, but I’m still happy to have a few pairs. All of these different elements are what makes shoes so interesting in my view, and most have their place. The only thing in your list that should categorically be banned are loafers. With all the amazing shoe styles available, I will never understand people’s decision to wear these abominations.

They still look good in my eyes. They are made in Cavalry Calf, so it's normal that they crease that way, because the leather tries to replicate the look of shell cordovan.

By the way, the Boston is part of the Main Collection and on the 314 last, so pretty different from the model I'm considering.

The creasing looks fine, i don't see any issue at all here.

The creasing does remind of of cordovan. These were so expensive. Because of the hand grade, they were nearly $1100 (they were an MTO) - Thomas @ C&J called the leather "hand grade antique mahogany calf" - I would not buy these again as I prefer the country grain...but I was just pointing out the creasing....

Again, not trying to negate your feelings, but I literally see nothing wrong in the pictures you posted. They look like great shoes that have only been worn once.
