For team Londra, are you using a local cobbler or sending somewhere? My Islay are over 10 years old so will probably resole at some point.
I used an exceptional local cobbler and had no reservations about trusting him. Unfortunately, he passed this Summer, and I'm looking for a new guy. Somebody here sent theirs away (somewhere in the Carolinas or Florida I think), and they said the work was exceptional. That's probably where my Moltons will go.

Here is a picture taken this morning. I live by the beach, it's clear, a bit overcast - I think the green is sensational in these pictures...

And for the record, I spend quite a bit of time in the Alden thread - but without questions C&J is my favorite brand - they are just amazing in terms of everything - fit, quality control, quality, box, dust bag, price (when compared to EG and JL), and their rubber soles are best in the biz (IMHO)

That is class. Just the right green 💚 . Pembroke in these will be super

I’m also on Team Londra Resole and can’t recommend it enough for smart casual / office boots!

I find it a softer sole than Ridgeway, plenty grippy, still low profile, and best of all - you get your heel stack back!

Here it is on my CJ x RL Lindrick’s (resole by Wyatt & Dad cobblers, swapped from leather)…

The increase in comfort and grip was expected. What really shocked me was when I picked them up how much lighter the boots were than they were with Dainite. Also, great point about getting an elegant heel stack. I think having to replace that rubber cap more often than with Ridgeway is a no-brainer when you get a real leather heel stack instead of a big rubber hockey puck.

Jim McFarland in Florida does a great job on my shoes. In fact, he talked me into trying the Londra soles for my Islays, and they are the example photo on his site.

Thanks to @lagsun shameless PSA enabling, more boots I don’t need, I do really like them though. Bronze oiled sides.

I'm really trying to get some C&J, really trying, however they seem to be difficult to deal with (like Rolex vibes - "you want to buy a watch, go jump off a cliff.")

I talked with a rep online a handful of months ago about buying some MTOs, then waited until I could have tried some on (ideally in store, nope, spoiler to the next remark), then reconnected with them and get a 45% increase on the price since earlier in the year.

Next up, I'm trying to learn my size. Where better to do so than AT Crockett & Jones. I walk in, chit chat and explain my needs, had a good enough of a time, and surprisingly not offered any sizing service. Cool. So I guess I'll left with taking a shot in the dark or relying on rando recommendations from Reddit.

So +45% and still in the dark on sizing despite going to the source.

Maybe C&J just isn't for me. Anyways, you all keep on posting your beautiful pairs and I'll just enjoy from afar

Next time use your words…maybe say something like, “can I try on a few pairs to nail down my size.”

I mean... "I don't know my size, I want to buy a few pairs... I'm new to the brand" you think would logically lead any salesman to "oh, let's get you fitted so you can buy something." But I'm no salesman, I just work with statistics. Guess you miss 100% of the shots not taken comes to life.

I'm not trying to **** on the brand or any store, I'm just sharing my experience. Please don't be offended (if you are, as a distinguished member, or please don't be offended that I'm taking it that you may be offended). I like their offerings, I just want some of my own.

When you said you were at C&J - was this at one of their boutiques? Typically you want to be a half a size smaller than your US size so I’m a US 11 so all of my Crockett Jones are 10.5 UK if that helps. I have a wide foot so in US I’m always a double or triple E and in Crockett Jones, I’m a G fitting.

Or contact Thomas at the 92 Jermyn Store - he’s the best shoe salesman I’ve ever dealt with. I’ve made seven MTO’s with him over the last two years and every single one has been perfect. You can reach him at: [email protected]

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
