Dear members,
I needed a lil advice.
I have now worn connaught 2’s suede for a few times and am getting used to it well!
I do feel it looks a tiny bit old school (am 30) than my age esp. due to round toe box shape but apart from that its pretty comfortable however there a slight itch.

The right shoe somehow feels quite sore at the point which is the highest bony point on my foot in the vamp area.
I have tried to loosen up my laces as much as i can however to no avail.
There’s no such issue on the left foot.
I would have worn the shoe for about 4-5 hours divided in two occasions so far.

Do you think it could be due to high instep? Or need to wear more and break in?
Or any other advice as am still in return window?

Images attached for reference.
I had this same problem with a Cheaney Avon shoe for a while. I have a high instep. I walked around plenty in it (both indoors and outdoors) for many weeks. But that did not solve the problem. I persisted but still the problem remained. I then resorted to inserting shoe trees which have a high instep and fit real tight into the tongue and throat of the shoe and stretch those areas. Crammed those shoe trees in. Not a millimeter of space spared inside that shoe. Left em in there for a few weeks, then wore the shoes around, repeated the same cycle again..... Having repeated the cycle a few times over 6 months, i find now the problem is dealt with and gone.

But this is resorting to "inflicting" a solution. Not necessarily a proper solution. But one that worked for me.

Speaking more generally and sensibly, if such a problem is occuring, then the shoe last probably isnt suited to your foot.

MTO Navy Scotch Grain Pembroke - with vibram sole
View attachment 2225785
Nice man. Bravo. Wear them in good health. . . . C&J on the 25th anniversary of the Pembroke did a few colours in the pebble grain leather including navy blue and dark green. They should definitely do them again. But hey, C&J never really listen to what customers want, do they!

Funny you should mention green. I recently bought a MTO pair of dark green C&J Boston loafers in country calf grain...I love them, but once I got them here, I realized that green shoes are difficult to match up....but I love the colors, not sure if I would do a green pair of Pembrokes....

Looking for lacing style tips for my feet with a somewhat low instep.

I normally lace my boots with just plain criss-cross style, but I just did some research and experimented with a style where one lace goes diagonally from the bottom to the top and the other criss crosses. It makes the shoe fit tighter around the instep which I find useful. This is the style that I think C&J uses in their stores and ships with. It is difficult the get laces even with this style.

Is there another styles that I should look in to? Does btw C&J recommend any particular style? I am referring to derby shoes and boots as for oxfords I use the bar lacing.

I prefer cross-lacing for derbies and parallel lacing for oxfords.
There is somewhere a web-page only on lacing styles. Will have to look, if I can find the adress for you.

Out of curiosity, which gap do these fill for you? I have the wax calf Eskdales, which look great, but I never seem to wear them. Once I get to this level of formality, I have many dress shoes that fill the role. Ideas are appreciated.
I donˋt see them as boots of some formal level. With the storm welt and the studded rubbersole they will pair great with denim or corduroy trousers.

The gap: as I like the last 348 very much there was a empty space between tetburies, lingfields and camberleys.

(I dontˋt think you can replace a boot by a shoe?)

Thanks. That makes sense. I had the same thing in mind, but the wax calf feels slightly too dressy with denim or corduroy. And as you mention, the last and storm welt are not formal either.

Thats’s just a personal preference, though, and I see how someone could view it differently and wear with denim or cord, especially if you are on the smarter/sharper end of casual. That’s when I wear them, it’s just not very often.

As I previously said, the Northcote seems contradictory in the style, as the last is rather smart and other elements, like sole and storm welt, are more casual and rugged, so the combination could be tricky.
All in all I think that the casual look prevails and I would combine them with cords and sport coats, not with suits.

The Eskdale looks more coherent to me, as all the style elements are congruous with each other.
