Thank you so much to all who contributed and provided their valuable feedback in this thread. It not only helped me learn about this brand and their products but so much more.

Well,
I went to the store at the Burlington Arcade this weekend and ended up with completely different shoe than I had planned earlier.

It is the Connaught 2 in Dark Oak Suede on the 379 last.
The Junior manager there was kind enough to suggest this last as its a new one taking care of the slimmer heels.
He was himself wearing the shoe and was quite happy with it apparently.
My other shortlist was Harvard 2 ie unlined dark brown suede loafer.
However, as I own the Dark brown Crawfords I thought Ill prioritise Connaught 2 and maybe look at the latter maybe next spring.

I also did pick up the Kew. They offered me a second pair which apparently had some creasing at the top of heel hence could not meet retail sale criteria of the company.
They offered a discount of 145£ on the pair.
Its a bit snug at the widest part of my feet however they said that it should open up as the leather is quite soft in handgrade.

Afterthoughts,
Am happy with my purchases but just wondering if Connaught 2’s are a bit too formal in today’s day and age.
Happy to receive comments.

For my next purchase I do have black crawfords (Grantham’s didnt fit that well in the heel) which fit like a charm (363 last) and harvard 2 on the list.
Dear members,
I needed a lil advice.
I have now worn connaught 2’s suede for a few times and am getting used to it well!
I do feel it looks a tiny bit old school (am 30) than my age esp. due to round toe box shape but apart from that its pretty comfortable however there a slight itch.

The right shoe somehow feels quite sore at the point which is the highest bony point on my foot in the vamp area.
I have tried to loosen up my laces as much as i can however to no avail.
There’s no such issue on the left foot.
I would have worn the shoe for about 4-5 hours divided in two occasions so far.

Do you think it could be due to high instep? Or need to wear more and break in?
Or any other advice as am still in return window?

Images attached for reference.

Ouch! Yes it’s likely the shoes need more breaking in, and I’d suggest tying the laces slack for a while. If that does not work have them stretched.

That looks like an instep issue. Look how open the shoe is even when laced.

That’s a benefit of laces as a closure device, you can adjust the fit. Your foot swells during the day. Try slackening the laces when you notice the discomfort. I don’t often have this problem, but when I do loosening the laces is a quick remedy.

Yes, lace-up shoes are the most flexible/forgiving in terms of fitting, but sometimes you need a different last. This one seems such a case.

Sure, to a point. If the shoe facings are that far apart, the last is not right for you.
if you have a high instep, derby shoes are much more forgiving. oxfords canˋt give you aditional space at the lower end of the lacing.

Are they as comfortable as they look like as casual footwear for the summer?

Best regards

Pascal
they are unlined, soft suede, wearing like a pair of gloves. very simular to milton and hayle boots.
as a casual suede derby stile I dare to wear them with shorts and (sometimes) sockless. but I am aware this might be not everyones favour…

The small medallion makes the black oxfords interesting.

Best regards

Pascal
the dover is simular to the rosewood and edgeware modells, a bit like a wholecut with a punced medaillon.

I ´ve been at funeral today. my relatives asked for a summerly dresscode, so I ´ve choosen a darkgrey linnen sportscoat, white shirt and light trousers to black shoes and belt.

Hello, are you making sports than involve stressing your feet? I mean football, basketball or running? Maybe is that your feet are not used to leather soles and to Oxford shoes lacing.

I had a similar issue (I also have high instep) and found that Justin Fitzpatrick's (aka The Shoe Snob) advice for shoe breaking is the best. Just use the inside your house for several times untill the leather mould to your feet.

And my advice is to not use new shoes after running. I avoid leather sole shoes after a long run my feet tend to swell.

I hope this helps, cheers
