low stock is an issue with 3rd party retailers, yes. but in my experience, wait times for restocks have not been that bad (i.e. 2-3 weeks).

and they did take u.s. orders at the jermyn street shop - shipping via parcelforce. but it's worth mentioning that my order was for a model that was not offered by their NYC store . . .

can someone post a picture of the Northcote being worn? I'm ready to pull the trigger but still a bit torn. I've been through the entire thread and have read conflicting opinions on whether or now the 348 last makes the boot look too long / clownish.

Consider how big your feet are and how tapered you wear your trousers.

If you have size 12 feet and a 7.5" leg opening, then yes, they will look clown-like.

    It's all about proportion.

I wear a size 13, so it would not help your case if I shoe you a worn pair.
However, you can't wear a taperd pants withe Northcote (or you should not) since the shaft of the boots is almost 8".
The Northcote is dress boot and not suited for casual look. It is really a suit boots for those days when you want a dress shoe substitute.

There appear to be very few shots of this boot actually being worn in the wild which makes me wonder if anyone actually wears it regularly after purchasing, perhaps because its elongated last doesn't suit their build. I did find this snap though from another SF thread here

And an e.g. of a worn boot minus owner

I wondered earlier in the thread if the wax leather is a corrected grain but it appears that this boot has previoulsy been made up in Cavalry Calf which is C&J's corrected grain leather. The 2nd picture looks like the wax calf version and to my eyes anyway looks very good. One for the future but for the moment am saving the euros and cent for Cottesmore before C&J put their prices up again!

    C&J Experts,

I picked up a pair of C&J suede loafers from the B&S section recently and I have a question about where to source some lasted sock liners. Sans sock, the shoe is too loose, with sock it's okay... trick, I know. So I'm having my local shoe guy cut some insoles to help out a bit, but I've heard that it's possible to get C&J lasted sock liners, is that true? If so, via which avenue would one progress to acquire such sock liners? Thanks! And yes, if you're reading between the lines, I'm essentially saying I want to make the shoe smaller... I know, I know.

The wax calf used by C&J should be a "semi-corrected" grain leather, impregnated with waxes, similar to the old Church's Appaloosa Calf ( see this http://www.styleforum.net/t/168002/shoe-damage-report-shoe-p0rn-central-part-ii/6825#post_4788717)
It will age better and better than Corrected grain.

    I'm interested in the C & J Milton boot (348 Last). I normally wear a US size 8.5/9.0. What size should I wear based on C & J sizing?

I wear a US8.5D in the Alden Hampton Last and UK7.5E in the C&J 348 last. I have it for shoes and not boots. The 348 is a bit longer and wears narrower. Both are comfortable for me. I have flat feet. I wear a UK8E in the C&J 363 last for the Somerville boot, which is a handgrade last. It's as long as the 348, but a tad wider and is the most comfortable shoe I own.

If you have a wider foot or higher arch you probably need an 8 in the 348 especially if you wear a 9 in many US fittings. Otherwise, we may be that we are very close in size, so my fittings may be a good guide.

i tried the 'milton' on at the nyc crockett and jones store, and the fit is unique because this chukka boot model is 'unlined'. unless your foot is on the wide size, general rule of thumb is to size down at least one on the 348 last C&J models. but staff at NYC store recommends you go down an extra half size from your normal 348 last, UK size on the 'milton' model.

since i typically wear a US 11D on the AE '5-65', i normally wear a UK 10E on the 348 last. But on the 'milton' correct guidance was a UK 9.5E . . . call C&J staff for info before buying . . .
