What was it like working at C&J? Did they give you free shoes? Meet any famous customers?

papado, jet-stream, and Churchill W thank you all for your input. Much appreciated.

Based on a tracing C&J thought I might be almost 9UK in length, but suggested trying 8.5 and 8, based on width.

I put on my Clark Street's to write this and need to update that the heel is as roomy as the instep (almost loose with no socks, snug with a new pair of mid-weight wool corgi's that might be a companion for the boots on colder days), and the tightest part on me is towards the front of my toes. So, I am considering jet-stream's input about the 108 heel being a bit larger than the 348.

I think the convergence of this is that 8.5E UK is the first choice to try, but not to be surprised if I'd be better with the 8UK E.

allred, are these a custom colour? They appear quite a bit lighter than the Darkbrown Wax Calf shown on the website.

Still work there and still enjoy it :)
You get a pair of free shoes once you pass probation after 3 months.
Quite a few famous customers actually but I won't name them...

When writing my comment I half expected it to catch your eye. (Oh, and your little jibe about Edward Green seconds tells us you’re reading much more.) Yes, you’re definitely good at your job. Look at you, trying to draw me into the shop and get me into trouble. ;) I will be in London tomorrow actually. However, there won’t be time to make it to Jermyn Street, though I would certainly like to. Thank you for the offer. The last time I saw you, you were accommodating a French customer by speaking French.

Could be, not quite sure. He seems familiar somehow.
If it had been the gal I'd have remembered.

Well friend, if you work on commission let us know, and we’ll give you plenty of business by going through you direct at the store.

Does anybody have any feedback on the 373 last? I melted down and bought a pair on them without trying them on... I roughly know where I stand on a 348. But I have seen no reliable comparisons. I see TONS of posts on the 337, which tells me Crockett and Jone's website is not a good descriptor of how the lasts/fit compares.

In my experience the 373 last has little more volume than 348 last and the instep of 348 last is lower than 373 last.
