Quick question about MTM shirt fabric (Regency)

Can someone tell me about the quality of a fabric by brand "Regency" or "Regency by Soktas" (maybe an Indian company? Not sure...) The tailor told me that it's his most expensive fabric, it looks/feels nice (I believe CEGO also stocks this fabric -- correct? If so, Carl, can you chime in?), costs about $260 for a shirt. It's more expensive than his Loro Piana fabric, but I don't know much about the quality of this brand (and google brings up no results...)

Thanks!

Soktas is a turkish mill. I use their fabric. mostly 100/2 and 140/2 qualities

the Name Regency does not ring a bell. they also produce 200/2.
there had been some talk in the industry about the quality of the raw material used by soktas in their 200/2. the wholesale bulk yaradge price is way to low for them to be using egyptian Giza cotton.

I do not show Loro Piana shirtings. I think they are overpriced for the quality.

Just looked at the 140/2 book. It is called Regency.
I have used this quality for quite some time.

It is not as good as Thomas mason Goldline, but it is not as expensive either. It has a different feel then Goldline.
Regency is more about the resins in the finish, Goldline is more about the fibers with a more natural finish. Goldline will Wrinkle more then Regency

Thanks Carl - I was almost positive that you stocked Regency, b/c I believe I have a shirt that you made for me of this fabric... saw the exact same pattern at another tailor's shop and the brand rang a bell. How much are you charging for a shirt of that fabric nowadays? If I recall correctly, the book had stated $275, but I think you might've charged me less than that... this was a while ago, so I'm not positive.

Would you say that the quality of Soktas is better than that of Loro Piana?

Thanks!

First, Loro piana does not weave their own shirt fabric. I think they are using SICTESS. SICTESS is an excelelnt. but very expensive mill. From what I was told... LP chose to weave in slightly lighter constructions to save some money then what SICTESS would normally use..

I do not have much experience with LP shirtings. I looked at the swatch books, looked at the patterns and then looked at the prices. I thought it was overpriced for the constructions.

Yes, that book is priced at $275. I can always lower a listed price for a good customer.
Book price will always be higher then comparable fabric that I might have picked up in a closeout.

thanx carl, just a precision: its CISTESS if i'm correct......

BTW i came across a collection of shirtings by ZEGNA (i believe it's their first collection ever,at least to my knowledge) it was mostly 100/2 and 120/2 pretty lightweight, and some 80%cotton/20%linen.

i'd like your insight on it,personally i was sharply underwhelmed both about the overall quality and patterns on offer, and prices were obviously high across the board....
it was most probably contracted out to some outside mill (similar to the LP arrangement) but i definitely expected something better from ZEGNA.

S.I.C. Tess Srl is the correct spelling

I recently bought some Zegna leftover shirt fabric. the tickets said the fabric was from Canclini, Riva, etc. some of the fabric was in 50 or 6o/1 compact and very underwhelming. dry finish. and not worth the price that the jobber was offering them to me.

have not seen any "Zegna" brand shirt fabric. Like LP they are just adding on their mark up.

Thanks for the response. I'm currently in Korea, and this fabric was the top fabric (or at least most expensive fabric) at the tailor's shop, but I assume that you have fabric that would probably be of higher quality? I'm just starting to build a professional wardrobe, and care more for quality than price, so I was a bit surprised that the top-end stuff here would be considered mid-range back in NY... or am I mistaken? If there were a 1-10 scale of fabric fabulousness, where do you think this Regency would sit? Just debating whether I should get some more shirts made - as they fit pretty well - or wait until I'm back in the States to have something made in NY.

the quality of the fabric is just fine.

I have not seen any shirts from Korea that I was impressed with. but of course all I usually see are lower priced shirts. I do not like the fusing used on most shirts from Korea.
The cost should be a lot less then what I charge.
