Hi there, I'll keep it brief, tossing up ordering a 3" vs 3.5" navy grenadine from Kent Wang. Leaning towards the 3" because I think this looks great:
http://clothesonfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Dr-No_Sean-Connery_Jamica_grey-suit-top.bmp.jpg and it is slimmer rather than wide. Also as a slimmer chap at 155lbs and 5'10" (36R) I figured a slimmer tie may look more balanced. I've never really thought about it before.

Do both widths qualify as classic? Which would you pick and why?

    I'd go with 3" b/c you're thin.

Classic would be more like 3.75 inches - with recent fashion narrower.

With your weight and height I would lean more towards 3.25 inches and perhaps 56 inches long for a four-in-hand knot in a 4-fold construction - although you need to measure yourself to get the correct width. Short or long upper torsos can change measurements.
