I've got some questions about current decade's mens fashion.

1.)Why are neckties and suit or sportcoat lapels and dress shirt collar points are getting slim and narrower (like in the early 1980s phase)? Most modern suit/designs I see nowadays are solid or pinstriped (less plaid) and sometimes dark colors. And the widith of neckties getting narrower like 2" to 3" inches wide.

2.)Why you never seen wide neckties in style?
Back in the late 1990s-mid 2000s we seen neckties that were 3 3/4" to 4" wide (like 1970s era neckties)

3.)Why you never seen British bar stripes or bold stripes or Tattersall checks on dress shirts nowadays?
Most modern dress shirts are mostly solids or small stripes.

4.)I've begin to see cuffs on flat-front pants nowadays, what do you think about it?

5.)I'm 6'1" weighing 342 lbs. (in recent months I've loss more than 20 lbs), my chest size was 62 Portly Long (now it's 60 Portly Long), and my waist was 62" (now 60"), my neck size is about 20" neck with 35" sleeve which I was measured recently at a local men's store. Would I be suitable wearing a narrow regular length (sometimes I wear regular 57" length and 61" extra long length) necktie (like 2" to 2 3/4" inches wide) with a dress shirt (either a check, or wide striped, or bold striped, or solid, either tab collar, or pointed collar, or button-down collar like Brooks Brothers which I own some of their shirts, and or spread collar), and any suit or sportcoat (either pinstripes, herringbone, plaid, check, or solid colors) or would I be best suited in made-to-measure or custom suits, shrits and neckties (like Turnbull & Asser for the latter for example) with neckties either 3" or 4" wide? I love the Mad Men looks and flat front pants as well. And I love the fashions on the classic 1960s Dark Shadows show.

6.)I have brown hair, pale complexion, and blue eyes. Would either blues, whites, blacks, greys, olives/greens, yellows, pinks, purple, and earthtones look good on me? And what about pastels?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
