Does anyone know what a cashmere MTM overcoat from Brooks Brothers costs?

Also, how would quality compare to W.W. Chan, who charges $1500?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure they come from the Brooklyn factory of Martin Greenfield. I am not sure of the price, but I think there has been plenty of comments about Greenfield's quality. I also know he has a wide selection of fabric choices.

I called Madison, and they said 100% cashmere was $4,750

Wouldn't you want something a little more durable for an overcoat? A blend, at the very least?

I don't know, I had never thought of that. You think?

Even higher than I expected - and I figured it would be pretty outrageous.

I agree - moving on to find another maker. I am a corporate Brooks Brothers member and they have a 25% off MTM event coming up. Even at that price it's not worth it.

I don't know, mine is pretty tough. I think cashmere is more sturdy than you think.

I live in the Midwest, so overcoats make contact with the slush that collects along the side of my car when I enter and exit. I prefer a less precious wool in an overcoat. Anyway, I take it off when I get into work, then put it on when I leave. I reserve cashmere for something I wear more often. Fuckin nonsense, I know, but there it is, Zach.

Patrick Chu recommended I go with a blend rather than pure cashmere for reasons of durability. That sounds like good advice to me since overcoats tend to get pretty hard wear.

can I ask what the blend cost? Were you happy with the construction quality?

I guess it depens on where you live. I break out the overcoat three or four times a year.

About $850. I can't remember if it was some no-name Italian mill or Vitale Barberis. It's been worn pretty much every winter day for the past three years and it's held up fine. And the silhouette is great. If I had to do it again, I would choose a higher quality fabric in a wool/cashmere blend, but would change nothing else.
