Hey guys-

I have a personal question about my live performance playing the bass guitar
cool.gif

do you think its appropriate when the bassist comes up to the singer and they look at each other ..
blush.gif
this is difficult to describe
confused.gif
but they have an intense interaction.

I ask because I only have seen
lookaround.gif
the rhythm guitarist do this with the singer.

Sometimes I like to duel
fight[1].gif
with the rhythm guitar
tongue.gif
but many performers I have seen do this and I want to be more unique.

Do you often have intense interactions with your lead singer off the stage?

Depends on the country you're playing. Which one is yours?

Marilyn Manson would have great on stage interaction with Zigi during live shows, you might want to look to that for inspiration in the interesting.

The bassist should never do anything that detracts attention from the lead singer or guitarist. In general, observe the following commonly-accepted hierarchy, and know your place:

1. Lead vocals
2. Lead guitar
3. Drummer
4. Rhythm guitar
5. Road Manager
6. Dealer
7. Other percussion/backing vocalists
8. Hot Groupie
9. Roadie
10. Bassist
11. Ugly Groupie
12. Agent/Manager

That helps to explain why Sting is such a confused individual.

How close is this interaction? Is tongue involved?

This is the best post I have ever read anywhere ever.

The bassist below the drummer? I beg to differ. If for no other reason, just because the bassist is the acting interpreter between the rest of the band and the drummer: he/she takes chord/rhythmic changes and explains them to the drummer in terms of "bang-bang-boom-crash"!

(I'm a guitarist actually...)

Seriously, concerning your stage presence... Do whatever you feel like to. Let the moment decide that. Although that staring into the eyes bit... A tad... "Velvet Goldmine"...

It's music. That means your job, and the job of everyone else on stage, is to play the music. All the rest of it is crap.
