Question Time: Are the shoulders too narrow?

Hello all, looking for some advice. I recently purchased Drake's Navy Cotton Twill Jacket in a 38R. This turned out to be too small and I exchanged it for a 40R. It feels much better, but (after spending too much of quarantine looking at suits) I wonder if the shoulders are too narrow. The suit feels good, but I'm wondering if the shoulders don't extend as much as they should. I do have an athletic build and broad shoulders, however I think a 42R would be much to big in the chest and length. Looking for any opinions, thank you.
