Question on slim fitting jeans

Ok so I like the 511 Levis but I'm sort of a retrohead and i know the 501 Levis is classic but apparently the 501 we know is a modern cut and looser than in the past. My question is we're jeans generally in the 60s/70s/80s slim fitting? I mean every damn picture I see of that era people are wearing tight pants bell bottom or not but for those who actually experienced this era can you confirm this? And second where would I be able to find these retro style jeans and pants?
