Question on Gently Used Pants Pricing

I'm trying to find out what a used but worn zero or one time pair of pants should sell for. I'm selling some older Zegna and Dunhill (by Zegna) slacks in size 34 long (they have cuffs). Some high quality wool...some cashmere/wool. Many are in mint condition.

Any advice on how to price such an item for SF or ebay?

Thanks.

I don't buy used trou, but my advice for eBay is to start at the minimum price you'd want to receive. Bidding is way, way down, and stuff that starts low often stays low. Penny auctions can be the kiss of death. If it doesn't move, you can always lower the price.

I'd be especially cautious if the trou really are almost new. Unfortunately, the used stigma is still there.

I'd expect 15% of retail. Maybe 10% of retail now that so much retail is 80% off. Once you cut the tags, they are used. If you want to represent them as NWOT or "worn once" or "probably never worn," you join a big group that's strongly characterized by people reselling everything they find at the Goodwill with a tag full of golden ebay keywords.

You might get more in the B&S if you have a good reputation and high-quality photographs to support your argument.

Someone like aportnoy being an example of that (I'm thinking of how quickly his used suits move). From the perspective of a buyer, given what great nwt trousers often go for here, the 10% seems like a good rec.

Ensuring they are free of any residual is also a good idea.

Post some pictures and ask for opinions.

I know you a bit and I would consider buying some of them from you if I were in the market ( which I am not ).

Aportnoy once gave me some pants and they were truly like new. Maybe even better than new! He probably hadn't worn them even once and they were from the legendary AP.

As Sen. Bentson once so famously said, "You sir are no JFK or aportnoy"

And the same goes for you AF

On a serious note though, I know AF a little bit and I think these Zegnas and Dunhills will really be lightly worn and/or like new. But as ed said, "Used pants sell like used food!".

I don't think they will sell really high but why not take some pictures, describe them well, and get an idea of any interest.

At least they won't be an Ebay NWOT BS sale where "like new" stuff often has urine stains and has had major alterations.

This should give you a good idea of how much they would sell for on Ebay.

I bet A Harris or Vman could tell you the range that pants like that sell for on Ebay. But remember, on Ebay so much is contingent on your seller rep, your advertising skills and Ebay seller feedback as well as good photos. But do you really want to go that route?

I think your best bet and most expedient way to sell them would be here on B & S and that a $25-50 price range sounds approximately right depending on stuff like which are the nicest and which are the newest and were most expensive when you bought them.

Last, do not forget that you could give them to Conne as a gift and then he could sell then here with good hype and pictures

NB: I know little or nothing about clothes sales. I've been selling the single item below ( a super 120s Corneliani suit for a great price, see my sig ) and I can't seem to just about give it away.

Lol! Having a nice feedback and good and detailed pictures will go a long way by convicing the buyers that the price you want to sell it for is fair (whatever that is going to be)
