Question on fine pants--cenci, loro piana

Recently acquired some very nice Davide Cenci wool pants and sage green corduroys from Loro Piana. My neophyte question: each pair has a small loop of fabric protruding from the bottom of the waistband just to the right of the zipper. To what end? Clearly something to do with the belt, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

Lint Brush (great name, by the way

), I'm a neophyte, too. But I heard somewhere, I think it may have been on the Ask Andy men's clothing forum, that those little loops are there to help keep the belt from drooping in the center, over the zipper. How it is employed, I'm not sure. But you could certainly check by asking the members at the Ask Andy site: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/F...asp?FORUM_ID=3 If you haven't visited there or aren't a member, it's worth investigating. Hope you find a solution. Let us know if/when you find it.

Thanks for the response, Quill--I'll do a search on that forum.

Perhaps it's there to hold a flower, so that the eye is naturally drawn to the zipper region? Of course, requests to smell said flower must be dealt with on a case by case basis.

If that were true, LB, I think EVERY pair of man's pants ever MADE would have loops on them...

when doing up your belt, the little loop does go up and around the tine (if that's the correct term for the little piece of metal that actually goes into the holes of the belt) so the belt cannot slide sideways and stays relatively centred

it becomes evident when you do it for the first time

Thank you, Hermes--that is a courteous feature. Does it have a term of art?

Aah yes, but Lint Brush can still use his for flowers, if he so deems. Go man go.

Am I using the loop correctly?
Yup, you sure are. Or, at least if you're wrong, we're both wrong together.

Yep, I call it a belt-keeper loop. It keeps your belt from shifting over to the side.

TimelessRider, please upload another picture with a flower so we can compare Â

This is a feature that I would like to see on all dress trousers but it's like the gauntlet button on shirts; if you don't use it you run the risk of looking unkempt (to our trained eyes anyway. ) Bjorn

Bjorn, Trävligt att träffas. Jag är född i den USA, men mina foräldrar kommer från Lund o Malmö...och min moster bor på Sibyllegatan i Stockholm. Förlåt, jag tycker om praktisera när jag kan.

I agree; let's see what other uses us creative men-species can devise for this intirguing loop.
