I was told by JLibourel to repost this topic here for I may receive more responses. So here it goes. I'm not what you call literate when it comes to fashion, so do excuse me. But I am hoping by being here I can learn a plethora of things from everyone else [IMG] . Now, on to my question.

I have noticed that wearing dress shoes with jeans has caught on as being fashionable and I am not surprised, I love the look and can't stand sneakers [IMG] . I ususally wear Dr. Martens, but I want to upgrade to a more clean, trendy look. Now there are all different types of dress shoes that people combine with jeans, so I'll try to describe them and link to some pictures.

They are the dress shoes you find throughout the male fashion shows--(Dolce & Gabbana collections would be more specific)--in one form or the other; crocodile, black leather, etc. They are typically long and pointy at the toe and some even jokingly refer to the as 'cockroach killers'. I was wondering what is their classification of shoe, who manufactures them, and where can I purchase them. I also would appreciate it if anyone knew where I can find imitation shoes--ones that look very similar but don't have the price of designers. I mean, I don't have that much money, I still am a college student after all [IMG]

Here is a list of some examples, I hope it helps. Thanks everyone.

Personally I think dress boots in this kind of shape look a lot better with jeans than just shoes.

I'd say it depends on how dressy the shoes are, you can get pairs that can do for casual as well then there's pairs that are blatantly very formal.

I find they go far better with dark denim too.

Those are just slim plain toe black patent leather lace-ups. Shouldn't be that hard to find. Check yoox.com you should be able to find something you like. Trendier brands that make shoes like that would be dior homme, costume national, ymc, paul smith, n.d.c., etc. Also check out more reputable italian and english shoe makers like grenson, berluti, crockett and jones, etc. You can great deals amazing on shoes that will last you a lifetime if you look for sales and browse ebay. Cheapest decent option would be used bally, allen edmonds, stacy adams used or on sale (shitty construction but decent styling), used or on sale ferragamo. If you look around, you can spend anywhere from 40 to 500 bucks for legitimate dress shoes. I browse ebay like a fiend for used dress shoes and I've had allen edmonds for less than $20, bally for less than $50, paul smith for $150, etc. The deals are out there you just have to look.

I wouldn't buy shiny dress shoes (I think they call it patent leather) to wear with jeans, but thats just me.

personally, I wouldn't wear balmoral oxfords with denim, since there are so many better choices (boots, monkstraps, heavy laceup bluchers).

Do you know of any stores that are guaranteed to have them at the mall?

My searching on the web resulted to nothing until I decided to visit Nordstrom's website (Zara website wasn't working). Well I actually came across some designs I really am fond of from Mark Nason and Guess. In addition, the prices aren't that bad either, $125 is about as much as I am willing to pay or able to afford for a pair of shoes right now. The bright side is that I know I'm going to enjoy them for years to come.

Once I am out of college and have a professional career, then I can start purchasing expensive shoes from Italy, France, and England. Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciated your comments [IMG]

I think a boot with a little bit of a heel looks even better.
