Question for every day wear in Italy

Hi everyone,

Havent posted in a VERY long time and I just got married! We are going to Italy (Rome, Florence, Positano/Capri/Amalfi) next week.

I was planning on wearing some casual athletic type of clothing since we'll be walking around a lot. Wife said "most italians do not wear this type of clothing at all. "

So my question to one's who live in Italy is that true? What is "acceptable" attire? Must I follow the sartorial way when visiting these cities (trousers, dress shoes, tie, PS)?

I don't live there, but spent a decent chunk of time in the cities you mention.
I walked EVERYWHERE, so you want comfortable shoes.
But, if you wear sweats/nikes/or shorts, you will be a mangy tourist.
I stuck to light cotton or linen trousers and common project type trainers, and it worked out fine.

MUST you follow the sartorial way? Of course not.

Dress comfortable. Keep in mind the weather.

I never wear gym shorts or sweats when on vacation. I opt for casual shorts/linen pants/nice casual shirts/straw hat/loafers or sneakers/etc.

(Don't worry.....no one will put you on blast on SF!)
