Question about working buttons on jackets.

I received a jacket from Borrelli that has working buttons. However, from the sleeve head, the first button does not have an open hole, and second and third do, and the button closest to the hand also does not have an open hole. What is the point of this? Do I take it to my tailor and get the first and fourth holes opened up?

The point is so that the sleeve length can be easily altered by moving the last or first button.

Yes, you need your tailor to move the buttons if necessary and cut the holes when happy with the length

Ah... I see. I wish they had all four working as the sleeve length is perfect for me.

I should mention that the jacket is amazing and is head and shoulders above everything else I own (which isn't much, but it's quality stuff) in terms of construction and fit OTR.

I believe they are called Surgeon Cuffs.
The idea is to have the last button un-done..always.
Shows off how rich you are
Pure pretention, unless you are actually performing surgery in your jacket.

Hmmm - that gives me an idea about changing sleeve lengths on a jacket that already has surgeons cuffs - just add another button. Having 5 buttons probably won't work though, and would look odd.
