Question About Winter Coat Construction

Hi, all.

I'm having a winter coat made from cashmere fabric.

I'm not sure how to phrase my question, but . . . along where the coat opens beneath the lapel, there is typically fabric folded over into the other side (if you go look inside one of your winter coats, you should see how there is usually a few inches' width of fabric folded over into the inner side of the coat).

My question is, is there a standard amount in inches for how much they fold over before they begin inserting lining like Bemberg/Cupro? I was thinking about getting a couple extra inches of width of cashmere fabric for extra warmth. How do I vocalize that to a tailor, and is there a downside risk to doing this (other than, i assume, the cashmere is going to wear faster than a lining like Bemberg)?

Much thanks!

just tell him how wide you want the facing to be. if there is a top coat handy, show him what you want.
this will take more cloth. cashmere is expensive and he will need to charge extra.

Thank you, a tailor.

And so, is there a general rule in terms of width? It seems my HF coat has 4 inches of facing -- is there any downside you can think of (besides using extra fabric) to having a facing of, say, 6 or 7 inches?

Should I be concerned the interior will wear faster than if I had just used a Bemberg lining?

Thank you.
