Question about sleeve length

Hello everyone, I'm having alittle trouble on busying dress shirts due to the sleeve length. I'm a tall guy(6'4") with extremely long arms. I noticed then when I wear 37/38 length shirts, the sleeves are alittle short, not too short, but enough that if I were wearing a watch, you could completely see the watch. But when I wear 39/40, its pretty long and compltely covers my wrist and some of my hand. Also the sleeve itself is bigger, thus somewhat baggy. I'm having a hard time deciding which is the better "look". I was always told always go with the bigger size, but I'm not so sure I like that.

You shouldn't expect an off-the-rack shirt to fit you perfectly; if your watch is showing entirely with your arms at your side, it sounds like you'd want to go with the 39/40. Expect the shirt to shrink a little after you wash it too (unless you're doing the whole cold water wash thing).

I like my sleeves to end at the base of my thumb (a hair above my wrist -- right about where my radius bone ends). Take the 39/40 after washes to your tailor and have the sleeves shortened to the appropriate length. Be aware that a slight increase in the sleeves will probably also result in increases elsewhere in the shirt (hence the bagginess), so your tailor may have more than just the sleeves to work on.

decaff described a good length. you can make the cuffs circumference smaller. move the cuff buttons inward so that the cuffs will not slide down past the heel of the thumb. this will give you some surplus length. that will keep the sleeve from climbing up when you reach, or when you are wearing a suit coat. if that does not work, you can still have the sleeves shortened.

Why not just get the longer sleeve then have it tailored to match your arms?
