Hi everyone, sorry to make my first post potential troll-bait, but I've been made rather curious by an experience in a branch of a certain 'shirt maker' recently. The short of it is that I've been hunting an inexpensive tunic-collared shirt for a little while, and they told me that by popping to London I could grab theirs for under £40 - Job done thinks I. So off I toddle, buy a pair of them for everyday use.

The oddness occurs when I get home and unwrap the shirts, to find that one is clearly much older "Made in England" on the label, and the other much newer, and much different in feel, "Made in China" on the label. A little bizzare stock hangover, I expect it comes to us all eventually.

This got me thinking, and scouring these forums - where do these English companies actually have their stock made these days - I've ended up with rumours that Tyrwhitt is all Chinese, and certainties that Lewin is too - how about the rest of Jermyn street ?

I'd also like to expand that to include the well-known British shoe-makers, (are my Loakes actually Romanian or something ?) tailors (Apparently Gieves & Hawkes don't actually make any of their own/make any of their off-the-peg bits in Europe ?) (Basically I'm after a rough list of who-makes-what-where, if only for my own sanity when considering buying something hideously expensive in these trying times.)

A little new to all this, so please feel free to tell me that this has been done a million times !
