When you buy bespoke, after selecting the materials and having it made / completed. Do you get the pattern they used to make your suit? or do they bin it afterwards; are you able to ask for it, since it's only measured to one customer?

The tailoring shop owns the pattern. Sometimes, a shop will outsource their cutting to various cutters. In that case, I've heard of the cutters owning the pattern they drafted, not the shop. But I've never heard of the customer getting the pattern. Even if they gave it to you, I'm not sure what you'd do with it. If you went to a new cutter, they'd want to draft your pattern.

In one case, I've heard of someone hiring a lastmaker to get a last made. That last was then given to the customer, and the customer uses that last to get shoes made by hiring outworkers.

I'd love to take the pattern for a spin, but I see what you mean about the cutters owning the pattern. Thanks for the answer.

'Curious....define "...take the pattern for a spin...."
I've made a couple of blazers myself, using and making patterns is the most time consuming thing ever, so having one already made that fits you perfectly would be really nice.

If you are nice to your tailor and you explain that you are a shears aficionado, he'll probably make you a copy of the pattern for you to play with.
