As makeover shows are currently all the rage and this sounds like something which the readers of this forum might enjoy...

I thought I would mention that a new show titled "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" premieres tonight on Bravo at 10:00 p.m.

The show will take one unfashionable, non-stylish straight man and place him in the hands of five gay men for a complete makeover (everything but his sexuality I presume).

Each of the gay men is apparently an expert at various aspects of the makeover, i.e. clothing, food, culture, etc. and will work with the subject to turn him into a suave, sophisticated gent.

Time Magazine said good things about the program in last week's issue and our local television reviewer in The Arizona Republic gave the show a rave review yesterday, so I thought I would encourage everyone to give the show a try.

Sounds like a fun show to me. I'm going to check it out.

Hermes -
We'll have to get you across that river, I'm sure you could find somewhere in Greektown or in one of the suburbs like Grosse Pointe to watch the show.

OK - I watched it and it was pretty funny. They not only redid the straight guy's wardrobe and hair, but also his home and gave some tips for socializing. Unfortunately, I didn't really think the styles they picked were all that exciting. Lucky jeans and DKNY - I guess mainstream labels for mainstream appeal.

The funniest thing about the entire evening was in the article about this new show in my paper, they quoted one of the people from the Bravo Network as saying, "we're not trying to be the gay network." However, they led into the "Queer Eye" show by playing the "Cher Farewell Concert" and they followed the first two episodes with the movie "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." Yeah, right, they're not trying to be the "gay" network - not that there's anything wrong with that.

All in all, quite interesting counterprogramming to the MLB All Star game - I'm just glad that I have a remote.
