We are spending New Years in Quebec City and we are booked at the Hotel 71. We need suggestions of restaurants and things to do and see. Also, we would like to XC ski and I know there are plenty of areas to choose from but does anyone know of one where there are great vistas and good elevation. Thanks!

Best Regards,

Gary

If you had said montreal I could help you but I suggest egullet.com for restaurant suggestions. You should book a room at the ice hotel if you can still get one. It's pretty cool, although it's not in the city so you'd want to begin or end your trip there.

For the restaurants, you would have to specify what you want (price range, type of food, etc) and maybe I could chip in.

If you want to go skiing, then there is Mont St-Anne which is apparrently a nice place. Or you can go to Charlevoix, which is my favorite area of QuÃ

bec and not too far from QuÃ

bec City (a bit over an hour drive, maybe 1 and a half) and go skiing, enjoy the scenery, etc.

QuÃ

bec City is reknowned for the 'Old QuÃ

If you want to go shopping (this is a menswear forum after all), then outside of Holt Renfrew, there isn't much. And even at Holt Renfrew there isn't all that much. The shopping mecca would be MontrÃ

I support this wholeheartedly, all kidding aside. And while we at it let's please give them back Vermont and just for the heck of it New Hampshire, so that Quebecois border is so much closer to me.
