I am frequently asked if I think there is a bubble in private equity or hedge funds (I work in the industry) I respond that Dan Quayle is Chairman of a large fund (Cerberus Capital Management) and now Chelsea Clinton is working for one. I leave it at that. Both entered the field without any experience.

Maybe he was trying to look like JFK - I've seen photos of JFK buttoning both buttons........Perhaps that's what really gave Lloyd Bentsen the motivation to utter the quip "I knew Jack Kennedy, Jack Kennedy was friend of mine......"

I wonder if he took the job thinking "Cerberus" means "really smart".

His wife got a lot of his suits, ties, and shirts from the K&G mens store on the northside of Indianapolis. K&G is a discount men's store. They sell $150 suits that look and wear like $150 suits.

Looks like that suit is bespoke from the lapels. Wonder who GHWB's tailor is?

He may still have been smoking then...I think his doctors made him quit after one of his heart attacks, not sure which (!) one.

FWIW, my guess is that the General was fully buttoned-up too.

I didn't know that. Doesn't surprise me. Quayle attempted to distance himself from his wealthy background. Many pols wear a cheaper suit to attempt to become more appealing to the common man. Tom Wolfe wrote about this in his book, "A Man in Full."

I saw Dan once in AZ where he hung out golfing after leaving the VP and before going back to PE. He was sporting a beard.
