Well... no. At white tie events I'm certainly not going to wear Oxfords and at black tie I'd even still much rather wear opera pumps. I think they look very elegant and recieve many compliments. I may be wrong but I believe Black Rod wears even more old-fashioned court shoes, which have buckles on instead of bows.
