Just watched the trailer for this on myspace...I thought I was going to cry...poor Will. Overall, it looks like one of his better acting performances.

did anyone go to the myspace page? it's interesting that they have an internship opening for the Gap related to the movie if you send a video blog in.

I hate Will Smith with the kind of passion Slim reserves for iPods.

Will Smith is Philadelphia's finest bubble-gum rapper turned sitcom star turned Hollywood film star.

I read about the true story (I think in Maxim) a few years ago. The real guy now lives in luxury with his family in Chicago, a total self made man. I saw the preview when I saw that awful 9/11 movie. I don't really like Will Smith but the story is inspirational so I'll probably go see it.

Is it another oscar worthy: "It's hard out there for the pimp" story?

No, hustle and flow was terrible. This movie is about a man who is so broke he and his little boy have to sleep in subway station washrooms. All the while he's trying to become a stock broker. It's a true story so it should have a real impact.

I'm not sure that flow matters much, in many of today's movies. Even Flags of Our Fathers, produced by a 76 year old man who is accustomed, to traditional methods of film making, lacked cohesion. As for The Departed, I couldn't tell you what that movie was about, on a bet.

An exceptional movie with exceptional performances. Will Smith held his own with Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland, neither of whom are lightweights.

Absolutely. Stockard Channing, was flabbergasting, in that film. Tightly wound, intense, direct. Exceptional performance.

i like will smith. he's a fun action movie star. plus he seems like a genuinely good guy. i don't understand the hating. although i think his 'rap' music is pretty insipid. "Nod Your Head"??? ***** please! (N-word said with tongue in cheek, put down the haterade.)

Hey, it beats "slap dat ho!". Thematically, if not artistically.

I think it looks sort of charming, in an all-American cheesy Horatio Alger sort of way.
