Gentlemen,

I have bought a nice purple tie.. Now the question: what colour shirt would do (besides white, obviously)? And what colour suit/jacket? I am thinking of a white shirtn and a grey suit? Any other ideas?

If it's a dark purple I'd go with a lilac or light pink shirt with a navy suit. This also happens to be what I am wearing today.

Depends on the shade of purple. If it's a nice deep and dark purple (almost like plum) I would go for a light blue dress shirt and a navy suit.

Grey or navy suit. White, blue, pink, light green shirt, maybe even a washed-out red or orange if the tone is right, in solid, gingham, striped...

Yesterday I wore a grey suit with light blue gingham shirt and a royal purple grenadine tie.

Light blue shirt, dark grey suit. I love it. Purple is such an underrated (at least by the masses) color.

I'm actually wearing a purple tie today. I'm wearing it with a very light purple and white contrast collar dress shirt and a tan/taupe colored suit. The support staff in my office liked the ensemble, and I can't figure out whether that is a positive or negative.

White shirt, navy suit with purple pinstripes. White square. Not the shirts with these:

Purple ties look great with gray suits. One of my favorite color combos.

Purple tie, purple suit.

This combination is particularly useful when fighting Batman.

No. A green tie/purple suit is appropo for fighting the Batman.
