my girlfriend bought me a purple label silk dress shirt, is there anything to be careful of with a silk shirt? sweat? snagging? I have no idea.

Thrift stores seem to overflow with them; if you're worried about silk-specific mishaps, it couldn't hurt to just swing by and pick one up and wear it for a spell and see what happens.

Silk shirts are great... except that mine are so slick that they don't stay tucked in. I pretty much gave up trying and just wear them casual and untucked.
