So I've slowly started to learn about ebay purchases and SF for suits and jackets. As a noob. These prices look highly inflated with an amazing discount:
https://www.styleforum.net/buyandsell/3875-d’avenza-jacket.21395/ from $3875 to $409.

And on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-2995-D...:FBEAAOSwmo5ZpOHU:sc:USPSPriority!97008!US!-1

How does this go from $2995 to $221. its almost to good to be true? Is there anyway to know they are not rip-offs? or what other precautions should be considered?
Also, not sure this is the right forum?
Thanks!

Hi there and welcome. First of all, D'Avenza is a now defunct label so most of what you're seeing is either New Old Stock (NOS) or used.

The retail prices are not inflated and that's pretty much on par with the quality that went into them.

As for the ebay item, that's not a sport coat but an orphaned suit jacket. While in good condition, somewhat useless given it's nature.

The SF listed item is nice. It could be part of a suit but certainly could stand alone as a sport coat. What concerns me is the working buttonholes. Unless the sleeve length is exact, it leaves little wiggle room for adjustment.

Hi!
Oh dear, I have ways to go in terms of brands! I have more questions now.

So if those are the retail prices, what gives with the high markdowns? Also Is there any issue with buying new old stock? How does one know whether its an orphaned suit jacket? And how can I make it work as a stand alone jacket or is that a like a punishable by death offense?

The markdowns are what they are. Prices are determined by the market place and how eager the seller is to get rid of it. Who knows, maybe he has bills to pay.

The give away for the suit jacket is the striping pattern. As for the blue jacket, I think it looks fine the way it is. Some orphaned suit jackets can pass as being worn by themselves. I would argue this is one. Tweeds are another good examples. Stripes, as reference above, are not. It's not a capital crime, but you can do better.

Ah that's a shame, I liked the striping pattern. Just goes to show how much I need to learn I guess :)
