Which of the 2 suits below do you prefer on me? Would you purchase either?

What alterations might you make?

Please critique both suits below. After much suit shopping, I am trying to decide which of the two suits below to keep, if any. Both are returnable and were purchased for about the same amount of money.

Both suits are navy, 40 R. The first suit has a center vent. The second suit has side vents. Neither suit has yet been altered in any way. Each suit has a front and back photo. I purposely altered the photos to hide the labels to keep focus away from brand. While I would normally wear a tie, I did not in the photos so the tie would not be an issue.

If it matters, I am about 6 FT tall and weigh roughly 165.

One use of the suit(s) will be for web video presentations (for a finance related business) latter this year. So I am attempting to project a somewhat conservative, reliable image.

The first two pictures are of suit 1, the second two pictures are suit 2.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

This place is not a consultancy - bit too demanding for a first post.

Were you to search and read other posts you would see that you should provide views which are not chopped off at the knee as the fit of the trousers is part of such a review.

I would purchase neither as they are both too big.

Thanks for all the replies.

Where, specifically, are the suits too big?

I ask because I tried on a number of 39R and a few 38R suits (the current suits are 40R). The lapels on the 39R suit jackets would not lie flat. In fact, while you cannot tell from the pictures, suit 2 is borderline on the lapel front.

My understanding from reviewing posts is that when the lapels of a jacket bulge the issue is chest size. That is why I went up to a 40R.

Perhaps with a better understanding of where the 40R suits in the pictures are too big I could attempt to find a cut to compensate? Any suggestions?

I can't see the lapel issues from either of your pics, but the shoulders are way too big on both.

It is possible that neither of these will work, in any size. If the chest is too tight in a 38 or 39, but the shoulders are too big in a 40, then move on to another brand or cut.

The first one is better, but neither are great...
