Pull Tabs for Boots

I just got a pair of Red Wing Gentleman Traveller boots. The fit is spot on but getting my foot into the boot is a bit tricky.

I'm thinking about having pull tabs, put on the back of the boot to make it easier to get my foot in.

Since I'm new to the shoe game, I wanted to get an idea of cost and make sure that this is (1) possible; (2) easily done by a shoe repairman or leather worker.

Thanks.

What about a shoe horn? Or do you find yourself putting your boots on away from home a lot?

I just unlace the top 2 laces and its really, really easy to get them on and off.

These are laced? Then just open the laces.

Exactly...He did say he was "new to the shoe game".

If you look at the original post by pitboss12, he doesn't say that the boots have laces.

In regards to fabric pull-tabs mentioned by designprofessor, I would expect good leather boots to have leather pull-tabs. I have a pair of casual Cole Haan suede low-tops with fabric pull-tabs, but I'd never buy a pair of boots with fabric pull-tabs.

My most recently purchased shoes, a pair of shearling-lined boots, have leather pull tabs on the back. It's easy to take the boots on and off.

I'm not sure of the cost of getting pull-tabs put on boots, but I'd get it done if I were pitboss12, and I'd stick to pull-tabs on the back of the boots and not on the side. Something about side pull-tabs would ruin the symmetry of boots for me. I'd find a cobbler who can match the color of the original boots so the pull-tabs look original.

They definitely have laces and if you unlace them they definitely slip on quite easily.

huh? Laces can be unlaced? I thought they were only for lacing!

The boots do have laces, but undoing the top laces does not help out. I guess I just have big feet and I run into a little difficulty getting my foot in.

I will see someone to get tabs put on.

Thanks Panyen for the info.

there's really not much to discuss. You'd really rather have $40 tabs put on this boot because you don't want to unlace them more than 2 holes?

Well, RM Williams' boots have fabric pull tabs, and they're certainly considered some of the best dress boots.

Come to think of it, Doc Martens also have fabric pull tabs. I really don't think leather pull tabs are necessarily a sign of quality.
