They remind me of high school. Apart from that, they are useful. I have a really high fill down vest that can roll up into a ball the size of an orange that I carry with me backpacking - it is an instant warm layer for evening. I don't think I would ever wear one as a grown up in a city, though.

They can be fairly versatile with casual outfits. I like them, but only if they're fitted and not in obscene colors.

I agree with robin. I've got one in navy blue from Land's End for only $25 and it's seen its fair share of wear. I've been going to heavier jackets lately but it gets dragged out on moderately cool days.

When camping, they also make awesome pillows. I have a very puffy high fill power down vest. I'd like a less puffy one to wear casually in town.

Great for layering come spring and autumn. Actually even on chilly summer evenings. Very versatile, some even wear them over their coats

I have a couple which I wear for Winter sports like skiing, skating, ice sailing, etc...but I wouldn't wear them in the city.

I bought a wool one from BB the day after Christmas when things were on discount. It's the first one I've ever owned. Although weather around here has recently required heavy coats, I look forward to getting plenty of use out of it.

I have one from J. Crew. Navy lined with green. I like it for very casual weekend wear.
