They remind me of high school. Apart from that, they are useful. I have a really high fill down vest that can roll up into a ball the size of an orange that I carry with me backpacking - it is an instant warm layer for evening. I don't think I would ever wear one as a grown up in a city, though.

I agree with robin. I've got one in navy blue from Land's End for only $25 and it's seen its fair share of wear. I've been going to heavier jackets lately but it gets dragged out on moderately cool days.

Great for layering come spring and autumn. Actually even on chilly summer evenings. Very versatile, some even wear them over their coats

I have a couple which I wear for Winter sports like skiing, skating, ice sailing, etc...but I wouldn't wear them in the city.

I bought a wool one from BB the day after Christmas when things were on discount. It's the first one I've ever owned. Although weather around here has recently required heavy coats, I look forward to getting plenty of use out of it.
